13,000 foreign nationals contribute to Kazakhstan’s workforce

ASTANA – As of early March 2024, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population reports that 13,088 international workers are employed in Kazakhstan, authorized by local executive bodies.

The foreign labour force in Kazakhstan is categorized into several groups: 567 managers and deputies, 2,658 heads of departments, a majority of 5,774 specialists, and 580 skilled laborers. Additionally, 798 individuals are engaged in seasonal employment, with another 2,711 involved in corporate transfers.

Industry-wise, the largest number of foreign workers are in construction (4,281), followed by manufacturing (1,380), mining and quarrying (1,304), agriculture, forestry, and fisheries (834), and professional, scientific, and technical services (809). The foreign workforce predominantly consists of nationals from China (4,121 or 31.4%), India (1,176 or 8.9%), Turkey (1,128 or 8.6%), and Uzbekistan (908 or 6.9%).

Annually, the ministry allocates a quota to recruit foreign experts to Kazakhstan. Presently, 0.23% of this quota, equating to 22,000 workers, is fulfilled.
