LONDON, Feb 19(Mirror)The family of British journalist Charlotte Alice Peet, 32, who is missing in Brazil, has expressed their deep concern over her disappearance. Derek Peet, Charlotte’s father, told Sky News that his daughter flew to Brazil without informing her family, a behavior he described as unusual.

Charlotte, who had worked as a freelance correspondent for organizations including Al Jazeera, The Times, The London Standard, and The Telegraph, was last heard from on February 8. She informed a friend that she was in São Paulo and planning to travel to Rio de Janeiro. However, shortly afterward, her family lost contact with her, and her mother reported her missing to the police.

“We traced her movements from Gatwick Airport to São Paulo, and then the trail went cold,” Derek Peet said, describing the situation as “very worrying” and stating that the family is “trying to pick up the pieces.”

Charlotte has previously lived and worked in Brazil, more recently writing for the Rio Times. After returning to London, she came back to Brazil in November last year. On Tuesday, the Brazilian Foreign Press Association (ACIE) demanded that police intensify their search efforts and expressed their concern over her case. ACIE president Edmar Figueiredo called on authorities to find Charlotte as soon as possible.

The São Paulo Public Security Secretariat confirmed that the state department of homicide and protection of the person would assist in the investigation. A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office stated that they are supporting Charlotte’s family and are in contact with local authorities.

Charlotte’s family has provided information about her flight and a photo of her passport to aid in the search. The ACIE and its leadership have called on the relevant authorities to intensify their efforts to locate the missing journalist.
