EU and Central Asia discuss Afghanistan crisis in 5th meeting

BISHKEK: The Kazakh Foreign Ministry announced that the fifth meeting of the EU and Central Asia, which concentrated on Afghanistan, was held in Bishkek.

The meeting focused on the situation in Afghanistan and how to effectively engage with its current government. Ambassador-at-Large Talgat Kaliyev, the leader of the Kazakh delegation, shared Kazakhstan’s views on the potential for trade and transport cooperation with Afghanistan. The participants welcomed the latest UN report on Afghanistan and supported the UN Secretary-General’s proposal to create a Special Envoy for Afghanistan. The meeting was also attended by Roza Otunbayeva, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and the Head of the UN Mission in Afghanistan.
