ASTANA – Chinese scientists have pledged their support to Kazakhstan in creating artificial forest plantations on the dried bottom of the Aral Sea. This collaboration was discussed during a meeting on July 23 between Kazakh Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Yerlan Nysanbayev and scientists from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The primary aim of this project, as stated by the Kazakh ministry’s press service, is to mitigate the region’s adverse environmental impacts. Chinese experts recently visited the Kyzylorda Region to closely assess the ongoing efforts.

Nysanbayev emphasized the significance of strengthening cooperation in forest regeneration, highlighting China’s extensive experience and its world record in creating artificial forest plantations. Additionally, the proposal to establish a joint Kazakh-Chinese center aims to address the environmental challenges posed by the dried Aral Sea bed.
