GENEVA, Dec 09(Astana Times) – Renowned Kazakh artist Dimash Qudaibergen was appointed as a Global Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM) during the organization’s annual council session in Geneva on December 8.

The appointment upgrades Qudaibergen from his previous role as IOM Regional Goodwill Ambassador, which he assumed in 2024. It recognizes his ongoing dedication to supporting individuals in crisis and advocating for migrant rights.

In his prior capacity, Qudaibergen leveraged his international platform to highlight the challenges faced by migrants, promote their integration into societies, and contribute to fundraising initiatives.

During his recent “Stranger” world tour, which included performances in New York, Mexico City, Barcelona, London, and Berlin, the singer emphasized themes of inclusivity and resilience. The tour reached over 100,000 attendees globally, significantly boosting IOM’s visibility and engagement, according to reports from Dimash News.

At the council session, Qudaibergen delivered a moving performance of his signature song, “S.O.S d’un terrien en détresse,” for representatives from UN member states and IOM personnel.

Accepting the new title, Qudaibergen stated: “It is a great honor for me to be here with you, and I am truly grateful for this invitation. Being named a Global Goodwill Ambassador is an incredible honor. I accept it with deep humility and a strong sense of responsibility. As a Global Goodwill Ambassador, I will continue to advocate for migrants and raise awareness about safe migration. Every heart is a light that unites us, and through this light, we build one world together.”

IOM Director General Amy Pope commended the singer’s humanitarian contributions, saying: “His music reaches across borders, and his advocacy brings attention to the realities of people who are often overlooked. We are proud to welcome him as an IOM Global Goodwill Ambassador and look forward to all he will contribute to this role.”
