Kazakhstan recovers over $824 million in assets in 2024, Boosts investment and crime prevention measures

ASTANA, Jan. 24 (Agencies) – Kazakhstan successfully recovered 428.7 billion tenge (US$824.4 million) in assets illegally withdrawn in 2024, Prosecutor General Berik Asylov reported during an expanded meeting on Jan. 24, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The nation has also taken significant steps to enhance its economic and social landscape. Under agreements with various legal entities, 15 social and investment projects valued at more than 48 billion tenge (US$92.3 million) have been initiated. Additionally, judicial proceedings aimed at reclaiming unexplained assets have led to the recovery of $10 million through court rulings, reflecting Kazakhstan’s commitment to aligning with international legal practices.

Kazakhstan provided extensive support to 565 investors, whose contributions reached a total of 10 trillion tenge (US$19.2 billion), bolstering the national economy. Meanwhile, constitutional rights of approximately 3.5 million citizens were safeguarded, highlighting the government’s emphasis on protecting individual freedoms and legal entitlements.

In efforts to address family welfare, the government successfully collected 4.6 billion tenge (US$8.8 million) in alimony payments for the benefit of 23,000 children, showcasing a strong commitment to upholding children’s rights.

Proactive measures were also implemented to address environmental issues, protect children’s rights, and improve road safety. The government issued 23 supervisory acts, leading to the development of roadmaps and amendments aimed at tackling these critical concerns.

Kazakhstan recorded a notable reduction in crime rates in 2024. The overall crime rate fell by 5.3%, dropping from 140,000 reported cases in 2023 to 132,000 cases in 2024. Cases of torture witnessed an even sharper decline of 54%, with incidents decreasing from 424 to 194.

To enhance crime prevention and asset recovery, Kazakhstan has strengthened its international partnerships, signing nine treaties with Morocco (three agreements), Peru (three agreements), Qatar (two agreements), and Cyprus (one agreement) in 2024.

Efforts to secure the extradition of individuals abroad were also intensified. A total of 67 individuals were returned to Kazakhstan from various countries, including 37 from Russia, six from Georgia, four from the Kyrgyz Republic, three each from Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, and Azerbaijan, two each from Poland and Armenia, and one individual from Spain, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Germany, South Korea, Moldova, and Ukraine.

Kazakhstan’s achievements in asset recovery, crime prevention, and economic support reflect a robust commitment to justice, governance, and international cooperation. These efforts not only reinforce the country’s economic stability but also demonstrate its dedication to protecting citizens’ rights and fostering a secure and sustainable future.
