BISHKEK,Kyrgyzstan:- Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Bakyt Torobaev, attended a capsule-laying ceremony for tunnel construction on the Barskoon-Bedel highway in the Issyk-Kul region, according to the Kyrgyz government.
The 150-kilometer highway project, initiated on August 27 with President Sadyr Japarov, will connect to the Bedel checkpoint on the Kyrgyzstan-China border. It includes two major tunnels: a 5,340-meter tunnel at Seok pass and a 3,840-meter tunnel at Ashuu-Suu pass, among the longest and most complex in Kyrgyzstan’s history. The project also features bridges, avalanche protection galleries, and barriers against rockfalls and mudflows. Currently, 287 workers and 162 units of machinery are deployed across four worker camps.
Torobaev, overseeing progress, reiterated President Japarov’s directive for timely completion and high-quality standards. The highway is expected to reduce travel time, improve safety, and bolster Kyrgyzstan’s position as a regional transport hub.
