UK stands by Ukraine, no doubt: MFA

LONDON: British Foreign Secretary David Cameron has affirmed the UK’s unwavering support for Ukraine, stating that unlike in the US and other countries, this is not a contentious issue in Britain. He expressed confidence in Britain’s ability to continue supporting Ukraine, even if the US or other nations hesitate to make such commitments.

Cameron mentioned discussions with the UK Prime Minister about increasing armament production for Ukraine, emphasizing the need for further action. He also expressed the need for the US to step forward with their support package, expressing confidence in the likelihood of this happening due to the majority support in Congress.

In response to a query from Conservative Party MP Bob Seely about whether the Israel-Hamas conflict is diverting international attention from Ukraine, Cameron acknowledged this concern. He emphasized the importance of keeping Ukraine high on the international agenda and ensuring that the coalition of countries supporting Ukraine remains strong, united, and focused.

The UK has been a significant military ally to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, providing tanks (Challenger 2), long-range missiles (Storm Shadow), MLRS M270, and other armaments. The UK has also been allocating annual military aid worth £2.3 billion to Ukraine since the invasion began, with plans to match this amount in 2024. The UK Ministry of Defence recently announced that it has trained 33,000 Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel since 2022.
