LONDON (PR/Correspondent)— Senior Pakistani diplomat Tipu Usman formally took office as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom on 20 July 2026, assuming charge at the Pakistan High Commission in London.
His appointment comes at a pivotal moment in Pakistan-UK relations, as both nations aim to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, education, security, climate resilience, parliamentary ties, and diaspora affairs. As Pakistan’s chief diplomatic representative in London, High Commissioner Usman is expected to play a key role in advancing bilateral priorities with one of Islamabad’s most important international partners.
A seasoned career diplomat, Usman brings extensive experience to the position. Prior to his posting in London, he served as Chief of State Protocol at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, where he managed high-level state visits, official ceremonies, and engagements with foreign dignitaries and heads of state.
Throughout his career, Usman has held several significant assignments. He previously served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Pakistan in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and as Counsellor at Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, where he engaged in multilateral negotiations on a wide range of global issues. His earlier postings include First Secretary at the Embassy of Pakistan in Ankara, Türkiye, and Vice Consul at the Consulate General of Pakistan in Vancouver, Canada.
In his new role, High Commissioner Usman is expected to focus on strengthening political dialogue, expanding trade and investment, promoting educational and cultural exchanges, and enhancing cooperation in security, counterterrorism, technology, and climate action. He will also maintain close engagement with the British-Pakistani community, one of the largest and most dynamic Pakistani diasporas abroad, which serves as an important bridge between the two countries.
The United Kingdom remains a vital trading partner for Pakistan and a key destination for its exports, with bilateral ties extending across higher education, healthcare, scientific research, and parliamentary cooperation.
Analysts say Usman’s broad diplomatic background, including his expertise in protocol and multilateral affairs, makes him well-suited to further strengthen Pakistan’s strategic partnership with the United Kingdom and advance Islamabad’s foreign policy objectives in one of its most significant missions.
