10 Members of banned Yaqyn Inkar Islamic Group detained, says Kyrgyz officials

BISHKEK,Kyrgyzstan – The State Committee for National Security in Kyrgyzstan announced today that they have detained “a leader and nine members” of the Yaqyn Inkar Islamic group. Yaqyn Inkar, which is banned in the Central Asian nation, was apprehended in the southern Batken region. Additionally, 12 residents from the same region voluntarily renounced their membership in the group after police conducted “explanatory talks” with them. Yaqyn Inkar, originally founded in India, has been classified as an extremist organization by Kyrgyzstan’s secular government since 2017.
