Aidar Koishibayev: My name is Aidar Koishibayev, and I bring 15 years of experience in the hotel industry. Like many in this field, I began my career as a waiter. Over the years, I’ve gained valuable experience in Turkey and the UAE, where I learned about high service standards across different cultures. Since 2017, I’ve been working in Kazakhstan, where I contributed to the openings of Wyndham Garden Astana and Ramada by Wyndham Astana, taking on the role of general manager. Since late 2023, I have been managing the Wyndham Garden Burabay Hotel. For me, the highlight of my career is seeing a guest leave the hotel with a smile, truly satisfied with the service we provided.

EB: What significant transformations have you observed in the hotel industry over the past decade?

AK: Over the past decade, the hotel industry has undergone significant transformation driven by digitalisation. The advent of process automation, online booking systems, and mobile apps has revolutionised the sector, greatly enhancing the speed and convenience of service delivery for both guests and hoteliers. These technological advancements have become essential components of the modern hospitality landscape, significantly improving service quality and optimising staff performance.

EB: Can you elaborate on the impact of the creative industries on hotel development? In what ways does this influence manifest itself within the industry?

AK: I firmly believe that in today’s highly competitive and rapidly evolving landscape, attracting tourists requires a creative approach. The creative industries are essential to the long-term success of hotels, playing a pivotal role in shaping a unique atmosphere and offering distinctive services. This is evident in areas such as interior design, the creation of exclusive events and programs, and the development of innovative marketing strategies that help hotels differentiate themselves in the market.

EB: What are the current trends and challenges in the hotel industry, and what do you foresee for its future prospects? Are there any regional factors that might positively or negatively impact growth?

AK:In the hotel industry, several key trends are emerging: Personalization of service has become increasingly important, with guests now expecting bespoke experiences tailored to their preferences. Flexibility in booking and cancellation policies is crucial in navigating an uncertain environment. The integration of new technologies, including artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, is poised to continue transforming the industry, enhancing both operational efficiency and the guest experience.

However, significant challenges persist. Skills shortages demand a concerted effort towards training and retention. Economic instability, currency fluctuations, and inflation remain substantial threats to hotel profitability.
