BEIJING: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, informed Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that Iran and the United States may be approaching a diplomatic breakthrough, according to a statement issued by China’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday.
During a meeting in Beijing, Munir briefed the Chinese side on Pakistan’s ongoing mediation efforts aimed at reducing tensions and facilitating dialogue between Tehran and Washington.
According to the ministry, the Pakistani military chief said both sides appear to be “close to an agreement,” signaling potential progress in efforts to resolve the prolonged standoff between Iran and the United States.
Munir reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to supporting diplomatic engagement and stated that Pakistan was making every possible effort to help achieve a peaceful settlement. He also expressed hope that China would continue to play a constructive role in promoting regional stability and dialogue.
Wang Yi, in response, described Pakistan as a “reliable mediator that deserves trust from all sides” and praised Islamabad’s diplomatic initiatives. The Chinese foreign minister reiterated Beijing’s support for Pakistan’s efforts to encourage peaceful negotiations.
“Peace, though hard won, will eventually come,” Wang said, emphasizing China’s backing for diplomatic solutions over confrontation.
