ASTANA, Jan 08 (AstanaTimes) – A new 16-megawatt hydroelectric power plant will be constructed in the Markakol district of Eastern Kazakhstan, as announced by Nurlan Ramazanov, head of the energy and housing and public utilities department of the East Kazakhstan Region. Situated on the Kalzhyr River, this facility will be the fifth hydroelectric project in the region, aimed at promoting green energy initiatives.

During flood periods, the plant will be capable of supplying sufficient energy to the entire Markakol district. Its overall output will be integrated into Kazakhstan’s unified energy system.

Kalzhyr River Energy LLC secured the rights to build and operate the plant through a competitive auction. The company is required to complete the hydroelectric power plant within five years, with an expected completion date by 2030.

This project is part of Kazakhstan’s broader strategy for green energy development. It aims to improve the region’s energy security and reduce dependence on traditional energy sources. Additionally, the project is expected to create hundreds of jobs.
