TEHRAN,April 6/IRNA/ -Iran’s Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Mohammad Bagheri, has warned that retaliation for the recent attack on its consulate in Damascus, Syria, attributed to Israel, is inevitable and will be executed “at the right time and with maximum damage.” The incident, which has not been claimed by Israel, resulted in the death of seven Pasdaran officers, including General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, commander of the Qods Force in Syria and Lebanon.

Bagheri, quoted by the “Irna” news agency, stated that Iran will determine the timing, method, and plan of the operation against Israel. He attributed every action taken by Israel to its desperation and inability, adding that despite Israel’s attempts to control the Islamic world, its decline has begun due to the efforts of the Qods Force and their allies.

These statements follow a speech by Hassan Nasrallah, the general secretary of the pro-Iranian Lebanese Shiite party Hezbollah, during the International Day of Jerusalem celebrations. Nasrallah highlighted the significance of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas’s operation against Israel on October 7, 2023, calling it a “turning point” for the region. He criticized Israel’s failure to defeat the Islamic Resistance and Hamas or to secure the return of hostages.

Nasrallah further emphasized that Iran’s response to the consulate attack is inevitable and urged preparedness for any scenario. He expressed hope that the incident in Damascus would lead to a decisive victory and noted that Israel has started taking measures in fear of Iran’s response. The timing, location, and extent of this response, he added, depend on Tehran’s leadership.
