Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan strengthen educational ties amidst recent unrest

LONDON/Correspondent LP/ -In the wake of recent incidents in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, a meeting was held in London on 20th May 2024, under the auspices of the World Education Forum. The Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva, met with Khalid Siddiqui, the Minister of Federal Education and Professional Training of Pakistan, with the support of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the United Kingdom.The Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan،Ulan Djusupov، to UK was also in attendance at this meeting.

During the meeting, the Kyrgyz delegation briefed on the incident that occurred in Bishkek on 18th May involving foreign students, including Pakistani nationals. They emphasised that public order has been fully restored and the situation is under the personal control of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Minister Kendirbaeva highlighted that law enforcement agencies are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the incident. She also informed that the Kyrgyz authorities have taken all necessary steps to ensure the continuity of the educational process and maintain the appeal of the country’s educational institutions for foreign students. Priority has been given to ensuring the safety and well-being of students, strengthening their integration into local communities, and conducting explanatory work both domestically and internationally.

The Pakistani Minister of Education expressed his gratitude for the clarifications and stated that he would inform his Prime Minister about the meeting. He emphasised that this incident should not impact the ongoing education of Pakistani citizens in Kyrgyzstan and expressed readiness for close cooperation and strengthening of Kyrgyz-Pakistani relations in the field of education, which have traditionally been friendly and progressively developing at the bilateral level.

Minister Kendirbaeva extended an invitation to her Pakistani counterpart to visit Kyrgyzstan in the near future to personally observe the educational process, conditions of study and residence of Pakistani students, and discuss all aspects of bilateral cooperation in the field of education.
