LONDON (Reuters) December,2  Britain’s opposition Labor Party won a resounding victory on Friday in the votes for seats in the Houses of Parliament in northwest England. Win.

Add to the gloomy mood for the Conservative Party, which is lagging behind in national polls and looks headed for defeat in the expected 2024 national election, adding to the ruling party’s most experienced front-line politicians. One of his in the house, Sajid Javid, said he plans to resign.

The country’s former finance secretary joins a growing group of Conservative MPs set to leave Westminster in the next national election as the party could lose power for the first time since 2010.

The extent of the Conservatives’ defeat in the Chester by-election matched the national poll, which gave Labor a 20-point lead over her, according to pollster experts.

It provided the first election verdict since the Republican Party was embroiled in a chaotic battle of internal strife, ousting Boris Johnson and Liz Truss as prime ministers. Sunak took office as prime minister on October 25, succeeding a divided and troubled political party tasked with fighting rising inflation and restoring confidence in financial markets during the economic crisis.

Government parties rarely do well in so-called by-elections. A by-election is held outside of a national election when a member of parliament resigns.

In Chester, Labor candidate Samantha Dixon won 61% of her vote, while the Conservative candidate won 22% of her. The Labor majority rose to 10,974 from her 6,194. The Labor Party has held seats in Chester since the 2015 general election, winning the country’s smallest number of 93 seats. Chester belonged to the Conservative Party from 2010 to 2015.

Charles Walker, one of the Conservative MPs slated to step down in the next election, said Sunak did the right thing in a difficult situation, but a loss in the next national election was probably inevitable.

“It’s almost impossible to see us come back from there,” Walker told Times Radio.

Mr Javid said the Conservatives are asking lawmakers to confirm their intentions for the next election so the party can prepare.

He played his part in Drama of the Year the unprecedented ministerial decision to step down as Health Secretary in July and minutes before Sunak stepped down as Treasury Secretary and overthrew Johnson. It provoked a rebellion.

Javid, who also served as Treasury secretary under Johnson, said he would replace him, but resigned before the contest began. He is also set to replace Theresa May as the leader in 2019, retiring midway through the race.

UK elections expert John Curtis said a 13% move by the Conservatives and Labor in Chester suggested Labor would win a majority in the next national election, but local ‘s vote pointed out that it is rarely a good guide.

“Rishi Sunak reminded voters in Chester that he has a lot of work to do to get the party back in a position where they can contemplate the prospect of winning the Conservative Party in the next general election.

The vote was triggered after Labor MP Christian Matheson resigned. The independent commission said it had broken Congress’ Sexual Misconduct Directive by making sexual misconduct “undesirable and unwelcome.”
