CARACAS – Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado called for the removal of foreign influence from Venezuela during her remarks at the Munich Security Conference, underscoring the need to restore sovereign control over the country’s institutions.
Addressing the global forum, Machado emphasized that Russia, Cuba, and Iran have exerted undue influence within Venezuelan state structures and must be removed to enable a genuine democratic transition. She also highlighted China’s extensive financial involvement with the government of President Nicolás Maduro, noting that Beijing has provided more than $60 billion in support, including loans in exchange for access to Venezuela’s strategic resources.
Machado suggested that political change in Venezuela could have significant regional implications, potentially prompting shifts in power in countries such as Cuba and Nicaragua and reshaping the broader political landscape of Latin America.
Her remarks come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Latin America and global powers, with Venezuela’s internal crisis and external alliances drawing increased international attention.
