Putin meets with Mongolian leader to kick off bilateral talks in Astana

ASTANA,July 3/Correspondent LP/.Russian President Vladimir Putin has commenced a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Astana, beginning with discussions with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.

The two leaders last met in Beijing in October, focusing on economic and humanitarian cooperation.

Putin emphasised Russia’s assistance to Mongolia, particularly in coping with climate change. The discussions will initially involve delegations and may switch to one-on-one sessions if necessary.

The SCO summit, taking place on 3-4 July, will focus on economic and energy issues and address the geopolitical fallout from Russia’s war on Ukraine. China and Russia, while vying for influence in Central Asia, have grown closer since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, sharing a vision of a multipolar world order.

Putin is set to hold talks with leaders from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Turkey, and Pakistan. Additionally, a meeting with Iran’s acting president is scheduled for tomorrow.

According to the Kremlin, the discussions will initially involve delegations and may switch to one-on-one sessions if necessary.
