A Royal Navy technician, Elliott Courtman, is pursuing a £200,000 compensation claim against the Ministry of Defence (MoD) after losing an eye in a harrowing helicopter accident. Surgeons made valiant efforts to salvage his eye, but the penetrating injury necessitated its removal.

The incident occurred as the 27-year-old was securing a Merlin Mark 2 helicopter on the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier during darkness. Subsequently, Mr. Courtman experienced an infection in the eye socket after receiving an implant, leading to further surgeries before the prosthesis replacement.

His claim, filed at the High Court, seeks compensation for the severe repercussions and ongoing challenges stemming from the accident.
