MOSCOW: Speaking at the Cairo Peace Summit aimed at finding solutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Russian Presidential Special Envoy for the Middle East and Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, emphasized the necessity of halting the appropriation of Palestinian territories for settlements.
Bogdanov’s address, available on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s official website, stressed that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict cannot be resolved through temporary measures, economic incentives, or the concept of “economic peace.” He also underlined that attempts to freeze the conflict in a state of low-intensity confrontation would prove futile.
Instead, Bogdanov asserted that the key to resolving the issue lies in breaking the cycle of violence, renouncing unilateral actions, including the acquisition of Palestinian lands for settlement purposes, and preserving the sacred status of Jerusalem’s religious sites.
