TEHRAN, Feb 08 – Iran’s foreign minister on Sunday dismissed the recent deployment of U.S. naval forces to the region, saying Tehran would not be intimidated and would continue pursuing its uranium-enrichment programme despite mounting pressure from Washington.
Speaking at a forum in Tehran, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran had no intention of scaling back what he described as its “peaceful nuclear programme,” framing the issue as one of national sovereignty rather than a negotiating tool. “Their military deployment in the region does not scare us,” he said.
Araghchi’s remarks came two days after indirect talks in Oman with Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump. Following the meeting, Witkoff visited the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, currently deployed in the region as part of a broader U.S. military buildup.
