Zelensky meets Sunak, Charles after addressing the British Parliament

London(AFP) Prime Minister Zelensky addressed the British Parliament and visit Prince Charles’s residence in London. He will also meet Prime Minister Rishi Sunak,  Mr Zelensky’s trip to the UK, his second abroad since Russia invaded Ukraine almost a year ago, comes at a time when Kyiv is seeking more military help from the West.

French President Emmanuel Macron will welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Wednesday evening in Paris, the French presidential office said. The Ukrainian leader’s visit to France came hours after he addressed a joint session of the British Parliament in London, thanking the British public for their support from the “first day” of Russia’s aggression.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said during a trip to the Polish capital that Western partners could deliver the first battalion of Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine in his first three to four months of the year. 

Britain wants to start training Ukrainian fighter pilots as soon as possible, a spokesman for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said.

Shortly after his speech to parliament, President Zelensky met with King Charles III of England. We met at Buckingham Palace. The Ukrainian president entered the palace shortly after his speech to parliament and left it about 40 minutes later.

In addition to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron will also host Prime Minister Olaf Scholz in Paris on Wednesday evening, according to a statement from the Elysee presidential palace.

The Elysee Palace told AFP that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will arrive in Paris on Wednesday evening after a visit to London.

Zelensky will then attend his EU summit in Brussels on Thursday.

In past wars, “evil is lost,” said Zelensky, to applause from delegates. He also called for tougher sanctions against Moscow until “Russia is deprived of the opportunity to finance this war.”

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said Wednesday that his government wants to see a decisive military victory on the battlefields of Ukraine this year.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Olaf Scholz criticized public competition by some countries for those who can supply Ukraine with more and better weapons, saying it would undermine the unity of the allies.

The British government on Wednesday announced new sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, it said in a statement.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Britain on Wednesday for his second overseas visit since the Russian invasion began almost a year ago. Wearing his signature olive-hued top, Zelensky was cradled by a snack after disembarking from a military transport plane at Stansted Airport in north London.
