LONDON:According to a report by the Financial Times on Friday, the British government has issued an invitation to Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to visit London later this year. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the anticipated visit is likely to occur in either October or November.
A British government official has confirmed the invitation and asserted that the precise timing of the visit will be left to the discretion of the Saudi authorities, as they are deemed more indispensable to the UK than vice versa.
If the visit materializes, it would mark the first trip to London by the Saudi Arabian crown prince since he faced international condemnation in October 2018 due to the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi agents in Istanbul, a case that earned him pariah status.
After a compulsory absence from international visits for four years, Prince Mohammed bin Salman made his first European trip since the murder in July 2022, with visits to Greece and France.
