Uzbek consumer rights Chief boosts global cooperation in Geneva

GENEVA, Switzerland (Dr.Beruniy Alimov)- Chairman of the Federation of Consumer Rights Protection Societies of Uzbekistan J. Sarimsokov visited Geneva, Switzerland on the invitation of the General Director of Consumer International Mrs. Helen Laurent. The highlight of the visit was an important bilateral meeting on October 19, which strengthened international cooperation in consumer protection efforts.

During the meeting, Mrs. Helen Laurent commended the leadership of New Uzbekistan for their unwavering commitment to supporting non-governmental, non-profit organizations in the country, with special emphasis on the consumer advocacy movement. She praised the nation’s dedication to advancing the interests of consumers in the republic.

Furthermore, Mrs. Helen Laurent proposed the idea of hosting the Second International Forum of European and Asian Consumers in the historic cities of Bukhara and Samarkand, Uzbekistan. She also suggested establishing the headquarters of Consumers International in the capital city of Tashkent.

The discussions between both side were marked by a detailed exploration of various topics concerning the advancement of the consumer social movement and the exchange of experiences for mutual benefit. The meeting underscored the commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and fostering collaboration in this vital arena.

Consumers International is a global network of consumer organizations founded in 1960, which unites more than 200 consumer organizations from more than 100 countries on all continents. The organization has consultative status in the United Nations.

The Federation of Consumer Rights Protection Societies of Uzbekistan has been a full member of this international organization since 2018.
