The International Amnesty Organization has called for an immediate stop to the eviction of Afghan migrants by the Pakistani government. They have urged Pakistan to heed global appeals to halt the illegal deportation of Afghan refugees.

In a statement released on Thursday, the organization, quoting an immigration rights advocate, stated that Pakistan’s move to escalate the expulsion of Afghan migrants is in direct violation of international human rights laws and puts their lives at risk.

The organization further noted that the newly installed government in Pakistan has underscored its commitment to ramping up the expulsion of illegal Afghan migrants, with plans to continue this process post-Ramadan.

The human rights organization highlighted that Pakistan’s recent decision puts the lives of 800,000 Afghan migrants at serious risk, especially during the month of Ramadan.

The statement concluded with a plea to Pakistani authorities to immediately overturn these decisions and swiftly implement laws that align with human rights to safeguard the rights of refugees within the country.

It’s important to note that last year, the Pakistani government ordered the expulsion of over a million undocumented Afghan migrants within a one-month deadline. Approximately half of these migrants have since returned to Afghanistan.

Earlier, in the first phase, Pakistan announced in November last year that it would expel 1.7 million undocumented migrants. Pakistani media estimate that around half a million migrants have returned to Afghanistan so far.
