NEW YORK – Permanent Representatives of Central Asian nations briefed reporters at a United Nations Security Council media stakeout on Friday, announcing unified regional support for the Kyrgyz Republic’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.

Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative Ulugbek Lapasov informed the press about the outcomes of the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State held in Tashkent on 16 November 2025. The leaders signed a joint Address urging all UN Member States to back Kyrgyzstan’s bid.

“The nomination of the Kyrgyz Republic reflects Central Asia’s collective desire to strengthen its contribution to global peace and security,” Lapasov said, emphasizing the region’s consolidated stance.

Kyrgyzstan’s Permanent Representative Aida Kasymalieva expressed gratitude for the “unwavering solidarity” of her neighbors, describing the endorsement as a powerful demonstration of Central Asia’s commitment to dialogue and multilateralism.

“If elected, Kyrgyzstan will act as a responsible and principled voice on the Security Council, advocating for the interests of developing nations and small states while working tirelessly to uphold international peace and security,” Kasymalieva stated.

The joint appeal marks a rare show of regional unity at the United Nations as Central Asia seeks greater representation in global decision-making bodies.
