GENEVA, Switzerland – Iran has reaffirmed its firm and principled stance in ongoing indirect negotiations with the United States in Geneva, underscoring Tehran’s insistence on sanctions relief and respect for international norms as the basis for any diplomatic progress.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei told IRNA on Wednesday that Iranian negotiators arrived in Geneva with clear objectives and a resolute mindset, engaging in detailed discussions on the lifting of unlawful sanctions and nuclear issues.
“We have come here with an open yet firm approach,” Baqaei said, emphasizing that Iran would not accept superficial bargaining or coercive demands. “Our positions on the removal of sanctions, the nuclear dossier, and the framework of any agreement have been communicated with clarity and conviction.”

Baqaei noted that the talks have been substantive and intensive, with the Iranian delegation also holding important consultations with Oman’s foreign minister and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi. He stressed that Iran’s principled approach seeks not only fairness, but also recognition of Iran’s sovereign rights under international law.

“Mr. Grossi’s presence is significant, as the IAEA’s established technical role must be preserved in any future understanding,” Baqaei said, reinforcing Tehran’s insistence on a balanced framework for verification and cooperation. ﹙However, the ultimate decisions rest with the negotiating parties themselves, and Iran has demonstrated that it is pursuing results, not theatrics.﹚

Iran has repeatedly maintained that genuine diplomacy must be rooted in mutual respect and tangible relief from punitive measures that have constrained its economy and people. By contrast, Tehran has made clear that rhetoric or symbolic gestures will not substitute for concrete action.

The ongoing talks in Geneva follow a series of indirect negotiations mediated by Oman and come at a time when both sides have expressed willingness to continue the process. Regional and global observers note that while the United States is expected to propose its own conditions, Iran’s position remains anchored in upholding its rights, dignity, and strategic interests.
