WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 (Reuters) – One winning ticket to the Mega Millions lottery jackpot
At least $1.35 billion was sold in Maine, the second-largest jackpot in U.S. history, the lottery organizer said Saturday.
Ohio Lottery Director Pat McDonald, Executive Director of the Mega Millions Consortium, said in a statement: “This is his fourth $1 billion jackpot in Mega Millions history.”
The statement did not identify the city or owner of the winning ticket. Buying the winning ticket cost him $2 and all six numbers would have matched. You can choose either a lump sum payment of $724.6 million or an annual payment over his 30 years.
According to his Mega Millions website, most winners choose a lump sum payment that comes with hefty taxes. The winning jackpot numbers were 30, 43, 45, 46, and 61, plus Powerball 14. The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won on October 14th. He was split up in Florida. This is his second-largest in his 20-year history in the game, only surpassing his $1.537 billion earned in South Carolina in October 2018.
In addition to the jackpot winning ticket, his 14 tickets matching all five numbers will win the game’s secondary prize of $1 million. Four were sold in New York, two in California, and one each in Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Half of the proceeds from each Mega Millions ticket sale stays in the state where the ticket was sold, and the money supports lottery recipients such as: B. Civil Service Education or Pensions and Dealer Fees.
