BRUSSELS, Jan. 19(Imran Saqib Ch/Correspondent LP) — The European Parliament is set to vote on Jan. 20 on whether to fast-track its consideration of a proposed €90 billion financial support package for Ukraine, a step intended to accelerate the institution’s formal position on the measure.

The vote will concern only the use of an accelerated legislative procedure, not the final approval of the funding package, which would still require further endorsement by both the Parliament and EU member states. If backed by a majority of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), the procedure would allow the proposal to move more quickly through the Parliament’s internal decision-making stages.

The initiative forms part of broader European Union efforts to maintain macro-financial assistance for Ukraine. No final decision has yet been taken on the size, conditions or disbursement timetable of the proposed aid.
