DAMASCUS:Early on Wednesday, Israel conducted air strikes close to Syria’s capital, Damascus, resulting in two Syrian soldiers sustaining injuries, as reported by the Syrian state news agency SANA. According to a military source cited by SANA, the attack involved missile bursts launched from the north of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting specific positions near Damascus.

Most of the incoming missiles were intercepted by Syrian air defense systems; however, the strikes still caused material damage. The targeted locations included military positions near the airport in the town of Dimas and the Beirut-Damascus highway west of the capital, where elite members of the Syrian army are stationed, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor with an extensive network of sources in the region.

The NGO further reported that the air strikes also aimed at warehouses belonging to the pro-Iranian militant group, Hezbollah. This marks the 20th Israeli raid conducted so far this year, as stated by the Observatory.

Over the past decade of conflict in Syria, Israel has launched hundreds of air strikes within its territory, primarily targeting Iran-backed forces, Lebanese Hezbollah fighters, and Syrian army positions. While Israel seldom comments on these strikes, it has consistently emphasized its stance against allowing Iran to extend its presence in Syria.
