‘Free Gaza’ chants in Brisbane

Over 500 people gathered in the heart of Brisbane, draped in Palestinian flags and vibrant colors, to participate in a rally during the afternoon. They voiced their passionate calls for “free Gaza” and an end to the siege that has gripped the region.

The event’s speakers took a strong stance against the actions of the Israeli government, particularly its devastating impact on thousands of Palestinians. Additionally, they criticized the Australian government for its perceived lack of support in addressing the ongoing crisis.

Ghena Bader, a fourteen-year-old who hails from Gaza and still has family residing there, expressed deep concern for their safety. She shared her distress, stating, “It’s a heart-wrenching situation for them and for us. Every time you call them, it feels like they might not be there next time.” She went on to describe her personal experiences, having lived through numerous conflicts, and highlighted the hardships endured by children forced to live on the streets without access to basic necessities like food, water, and electricity.

Perth protests for Palestinians

Over 1,500 individuals gathered in Perth, raising their voices in unison with chants of “Stop the war in Gaza, initiate a ceasefire now.” At the rally, Ayman Qwaider, a Palestinian-Australian, spoke passionately about the devastating impact of Israeli bombings on homes and entire neighborhoods, emphasizing the humanity of Palestinians and their right to life.

Protesters at the event displayed placards bearing messages such as “Bombing kids is not self-defense. Enough is enough” and “Ceasefire now. Free Palestine.” Karim Mojaddidi, one of the demonstrators, expressed his opposition to Hamas and his solidarity with the Palestinian people, highlighting the long-standing nature of the conflict, which has persisted for over 75 years.

Similar rallies also unfolded in Wollongong, situated on the New South Wales south coast, and in Hobart.
