SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan: Air Samarkand completed its first passenger flight to Istanbul on Friday. The inaugural commercial flight departed from Samarkand International Airport with 305 passengers and flew to Istanbul. Samarkand considers Türkiye as one of its key destinations: the airline intends to fly to both capital airports and other cities in Türkiye.

The first flight marks a significant achievement for any airline. By starting passenger services, the airline progresses from the preparation phase to its main goal: to link cities and countries, bringing people together and enhancing transport, tourism and business opportunities in Samarkand and Uzbekistan.

“The commencement of passenger flights from Samarkand is a momentous occasion not just for us, but also for our base airport, the city and the Republic as a whole. Our team has worked hard to launch flights from Samarkand. We look forward to opening new routes, expanding the fleet and other events in the near future,” Air Samarkand CEO Anton Khojayan said.

On 27 December, the Civil Aviation Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan granted the airline an Operator Certificate – the main document that verifies the airline’s adherence to the requirements of aviation legislation, international standards and ICAO flight safety requirements.

The following day, on 28 December, the airline successfully performed a demonstration flight from Samarkand to Tashkent to check the performance of the flight and cabin crew, as well as to ensure that all requirements and procedures were followed before starting passenger operations.

For the current period, the airline focuses on operating flights on a charter basis, but it expects to operate regular flights and open ticket sales on its own website, through ticket offices and online aggregators by the beginning of the spring-summer season.
