Chinese Chargé d’Affaires summoned by FCDO over Cybersecurity breaches

LONDON – The British government has summoned the Chinese ambassador, Zheng Zeguang,to the Foreign Office after officially blaming China for two cyber attacks that targeted parliamentarians and institutions of the UK.

The British Foreign Minister, David Cameron, said the cyberattacks were “completely unacceptable” and that he had raised the issue “directly with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.”

Following the Deputy Prime Minister’s declaration in Parliament yesterday, the UK has enacted stringent, specific sanctions against a proxy firm and two individuals implicated in China’s harmful cyber operations. These operations have been directed at officials, governmental bodies, and legislators globally. The announcement was promptly followed by a summons.
